US Open Cup Final: Chicago Fire vs. LA Galaxy

fire-galaxy-us-open-cup.jpgThe ugly little redheaded stepchild of American soccer takes center stage tonight. No, we aren’t talk about Landycakes, although he will be venturing away from the beach for the evening to play in the US Open Cup final as his LA Galaxy square off against the Chicago Fire.

The US Open Cup has a long history in the States, but it is frequently overlooked, much to the dismay of many of the country’s more hardcore fans. Tonight’s matchup is actually a fun one, although we doubt it will get too much attention considering it is being played midweek in the midst of the American football season.

The Galaxy are the tournament holders but have been largely inconsistent this season. They are facing a Chicago Fire team that is one of the hottest (pun intended) in the league having won 10 of their past 13 matches, including a win against the Galaxy this past weekend in Chicago.

We’re going to predict that the Fire continue their winning ways and come out on top 1-0 to capture their fourth US Open Cup.

There’s lots of good stuff out there on the Blogoshpere about this match so do yourself a favor and take a gander at some of the posts on the sites listed below.
