Vote for Your MLS All-Star Team

By: Laurie | May 15th, 2008

vote.jpgAll right MLS fans, it’s time to crack the knuckles of your voting fingers and get down to the business of picking your MLS All-Star team. Because as we all know, our best of the best will be taking on the West Ham Hammers on July 24.

And as MLS fans, it is 25% our job to pick the team that will be showing the world that our best of the best can compete against a mid-table EPL team in off-season form.

Woohoo! Go, MLS!

So here’s your agenda for the next few minutes. Go to this site.

Are you there? Okay. The first thing you’ll need to do? Register. And the best part of all about this registration process? It actually accepted “1900″ as my birth year. For some reason there are sites that give you the option of entering 1900, but then they refuse to accept it. (BigSoccer, I’m looking at you.) On behalf of 108-year-old soccer fans everywhere, I am hugely offended when this happens. So kudos to MLS for their non-ageist policy.

Once you’re registered, you can pick eleven guys from a group of players that has been pre-selected for you by people who presumably know what they’re doing. Which is why they picked Abel Xavier. These people have also decided that your votes will be for a 3-5-2 formation. Because defense in these situations is completely overrated.

And then, once you’ve voted, you can vote again. And again. And Again. Etc. Up to ten times a day until voting closes on July 2.

Yes, ten times a day. And I strongly recommend that you vote your full allotment, each and every day, especially if you’re not a Toronto fan. Because we all know about those Toronto fans. They have socialized medicine up there, so they don’t have to worry about keeping their jobs like we do, so they have nothing better to do on their employers’ dime than to just go online and vote all over the place. Which means that if the rest of us aren’t careful, the All-Star team will be packed with players like Danny “Jaws” Dichio. Is this what we want?

(Haha! Just kidding Toronto fans! You know we love you here at The Offside. Especially when we are wearing our nonpartisan, main-page-writer hats.)

(When we’re wearing our utterly partisan, LA Galaxy fan hats, though? Your streamers piss us off.)

(But this is the Main Page. So… Hugs! Kisses! Vote Dichio! Or not! Whatever!)

But I digress. The point of this post? Regardless of your party affiliation, go to the site and vote, vote, VOTE!

What we need to do is find an MLS veteran who’s been around forever but never made the All Star game. You know, because he sucks just enough not to get picked. Then start a write-in campaign for that guy. I’m guessing MLS won’t let us get away with it, what with all the DP’s requiring a spot on the team, but wouldn’t it be cool to make some average journeyman player’s dreams come true? No? Okay then. As you were.

Watching [Euro 2008] makes you more European. If you watch all the games you’ll probably get free health care

    Ahem.

Also, this is probably the best post I’ve read on The Offside in weeks. Even the comments (Albert’s above) are amazing.
