Who will coach the LA Galaxy next? Here are a few possibilities
By: Bob | November 5th, 2007
It is always good to go out while on top. In the case of Frank Yallop, that meant waiting around long enough to guide his LA Galaxy side to a charity match victory over a bunch of Hollywood stars that you’ve never heard of. Following the match, Yallop made it known that he was leaving LA for San Jose, the place where he once had a fair amount of success. By fleeing the scene of the 2007 season of crime, he leaves MLS’ glamour team without a manager. Whose resumes will cross the desk of Alexi Lalas once the “help wanted” ad is posted on Craigslist? Here are a few guesses.
Jurgen Klinsmann – Linked the Galaxy gig a few months ago, the Southern California resident would seem to be the perfect fit if he is remotely interested in having a (relatively) low pressure gig until he takes over some national team before the 2010 World Cup.
Jose Mourinho – Ok, I will bet my liver that he will not end up in LA, but you know that there will be at least one headline proclaiming that the Galaxy are interested in him.
Steve McClaren – He could be on the market in a few weeks if England doesn’t qualify for the Euro 2008 championship and boy would life be nicer for him if the English tabloids were 6,000 miles away. His love of David Beckham knows no bounds. Heck, he was even in the stands during the charity match.
Alexi Lalas – Might be the only person willing to work with the club’s president, himself.
Bruce Arena – Didn’t set the world on fire in New York this season. Hard to picture him wearing zinc oxide and playing beach volleyball with Landon Donovan, however.
Cobi Jones – Might not have any managerial experience, but the original Mr. Galaxy does have the respect of his teammates and he is in need of a new gig.
Posh Spice – She has years of experience being the boss in her family, why not make her the boss of a team?
Who else should be on the Galaxy coaching shortlist and who do you think will end up with the job?

Aren’t they leaving for Australia this week or something (yeah, I *should* really know the details on this)? Who the crap is going to coach them for those friendlies? Oh well, my vote is for Posh to take over. Cobi can be her assistant.

For the hell of it add Martin Jol to that list, as well as Fabio Capello. I think we’ll see Klinsmann take it for 2008, before moving on to take a NT slot or a higher profile club job.

Mauricio Cienfuegos? He always said he wanted to coach. I was actually surprised he wasn’t involved (as far as I can tell) in the match yesterday.

Mick Harford, because he’s mental and that’s a quality you need to want to coach in a league worse than the Blue Square Premier.

Diane, it’s for just this reason that I’d love to see Mourinho in the job.
