It isn’t a good idea to try to escape your football contract in Romania
By: Bob | August 13th, 2007
It has been a while since we last checked in with the crazy world of Romanian football, which means that we have probably missed out on a few players being swapped for strange items stories. Our apologies. Today’s news from Romania shows what happens when a player has the audacity to ask for something really crazy. Like for his contract to be torn up.
That is exactly what Mihai Lungan, a player with the second-division club Juli Petrosani, asked for after the club failed to pay him a few months. The club’s owner, Alin Simota, did not take too kindly to Lungan’s request. He allegedly did what any business owner would do. He had his bodyguards beat up the player.
Lungan told the television station that he asked his agent to cancel his contract because he did not receive his salary for several months. Tudor said he received a threatening call from Simota after filing the paperwork.
Jiul Petrosani coach Ioan Sdrobis confirmed the incident, saying he saw the player covered in blood after a training session.
Man, just when you thought that life couldn’t be worse than playing for a second division Romanian club that doesn’t pay you along comes Lungan to teach us all that spending eight hours a day staring at Excel spreadsheets is actually a blessed thing.

The Romanian League sounds so crazy – I’d love to follow it! Where do you get your info about it Bob?

Bob:
I would like very much to watch Romanian soccer in the U.S., but cannot find any matches on TV in America. Do you have a suggestion?
Multumesc (thank you) — Ioan

Ioan – I don’t know how much football they broadcast but you can try the Romanian package on JumpTV. I’ll also ask my friends in Romania if they can recommend any free sites.

Bob:
I interested to know if you heard of any Romanian football games televised in US. I thought Champions League games maybe or EURO 2008 qualify matches. If your friends in Ro tell you, please pass to me.
Also, do you think Toni leaving Fiorentina will make MUTU a larger star or weaken the side too much?
Multumesc.
