News from Romania: It’s Time to Fire the First Team
By: Bob | December 29th, 2006
The lessons we learn today from everyone’s favorite league is that mediocrity will not be tolerated and that patience is not a virtue. Just four months after being promoted to Romania’s first division, nine players from Universitatea Craiova have been handed their walking papers and another four have been loaned out to other clubs.
Craiova currently resides in 11th place in the 18-team league and is a healthy 10 points clear of the bottom of the table. “We decided to drop almost the whole team because the board were not satisfied with their results in the first half of the championship,” said Craiova owner Adrian Mititelu.
You’ll recall that Craiova is the same team that saw its coach head butt one of his players earlier this season. Like nine of his players, he was also sacked.
