News from Romania: Voodoo ain’t Welcome Here
By: Bob | August 28th, 2006
The lesson we learn this week from Romania is that you should never trust those Bulgarians. Not only does yes mean no in their country, but if you aren’t careful they might just send their defense minister to your country to put a voodoo curse on your national football team.
Such are the accusations coming out of Romania this week ahead of the upcoming Romania and Bulgaria Euro 2008 qualifying clash. Officials at Farul Stadium in Constanza denied access to Bulgaria’s defense minister because they feared he would use voodoo to help his country to victory.
Carrying a piece of turf from the national stadium in Bulgaria, defense minister Vesselin Bliznakov claims he only wanted to put it in the Romanian stadium to give his team “good luck.” This, my friends, is little more than a code word for “voodoo”.
Was Bliznakov angry that his devious plot was foiled?
Bliznakov, who is in Romania on an official visit, wasn’t offended when he was denied access to the stadium, the report says. His Romanian counterpart Teodor Atanasiu said that the football game would end with supporters from both sides getting drunk.
Truer words have never been spoken.
