News from Romania: We’ll Trade our Keeper for your Gas Pipeline
By: Bob | December 21st, 2006
Every time I am home for the holidays my family asks the same questions. Why aren’t you married? Why haven’t you made millions of dollars so we can all sit on our asses and glum off of you? Why do you care so much about Romanian football? I can’t really answer the first two questions other than to say my football watching bloodshot eyes are hardly attractive and my blogging paycheck means I will have to work until I am 103 to pay off the credit card bills, but the Romanian football question is easy to answer. Just take a look at the latest news from everyone’s favorite league.
We learn today that Cornel Rasmerita, mayor of Lupeni in western Romania, who is also in charge of the Minerul football team has indicated that he isn’t opposed to selling his star goalkeeper Cristian Belgradean to first division team Jiul for the right price.
That price?
Said Rasmerita: “I know our keeper is wanted by a number of top clubs but I am willing to let him go to Jiul if the club’s owner makes a £110 000 (about R1,5-million) investment in a gas pipe that my town needs so much.”
Now there’s a savvy politician and a slick deal! If he can get some meat thrown into the trade he might just end up president of the country.
