Just Call them West Lithuania
By: Bob | December 13th, 2006
On the eleventh day of Christmas Vladimir Romanov gave to us, 11 Lithuanians a-playin’ for Hearts. Yes, our favorite eccentric nutjob of Scottish Premier League owner is back at it again, this time reportedly planning on bringing in 30 Lithuanian players for a winter trial period with Hearts. Roamnov’s club currently had seven players from his homeland on its books and there are whispers that he would like to see nothing more than 11 Lithuanians playing together in the future.
This wouldn’t be too remarkable if, say, Hearts was a club in Lithuania, but last time we checked they were still playing in Scotland and Scotland had not been invaded by Lithuania, but it is a small place so that might have changed while this post was being written.
With all the foreign investment that is taking place in club football these days, it makes you wonder if other owners will follow Romanov’s lead. Will the Egg field an all-Icelandic team at West Ham under new boss Bjork? Will the possible new Liverpool ownership find 11 people in Dubai who know how to kick a ball? Will Arsenal field 11 native sons and save English football?
Probably not, but who would have guessed a few years ago that there would be a time when a team in Scotland would be entirely Lithuanian?

I am a big Lithuania fan (isn’t everyone?).
Mostly because of the freakishly awesome names everyone seems to have (Hi. I’m John Smith. - Hi, I’m Zalastruksias Dratseviulionsievs.) but because for some reason they’re very good at basketball.
But whatever works for Hearts, I guess.Posted from

sam, the problem is that it isn’t working for hearts. at all.
andrius velicka is a damn good player, regardless of his nationality. the rest are passing - decent players, but they get first team play over better scots and non-lithuanians. oh, except barasa. he’s not even in that catagory, for he is just pure, unadulterated shite.
