Kris Boyd Tackled by the Ghost of Christmas Past
By: chris | April 8th, 2008There’s been some talk around here that perhaps it’s time for Kris Boyd to leave Rangers for some more playing time. Maybe the reason he doesn’t play is because he pulls these kinds of stunts in practice? During the weekend game between Dundee United & Rangers, Kris is fed a ball which was his and his alone to control at the edge of the box with only one defender. Instead he performed a theatrical tribute to Alberto Gilardino, diving without a defender within feet of him, and then proceeds to have words with the assistant referee. At least give him points for following through with the shenanigans; none for intelligence, though.

You know it is bad when Alan Thomson is telling Boyd to stop diving in practice.

Gah … I’m a big fan of Boyd, as the Scotland post indicates … but gah … no defending this, except to say that we all have days when we wake up unusually stupid.

no, no, no, that is no excuse ian rose. as a player myself, I’ve never, ever taken a dive. and I get lots of cards getting in the opposition’s face for diving themselves. but ultimately I think I’m in the right because a bunch of people around the world, who may or may not watch soccer, think lesser of it because they see diving in the headlines, or they see italy dive their way into the final of the world cup (and win it).

I agree with you, finnegan. I play too, and I’ve never dived either. I didn’t mean it was an excuse. I just mean that people make mistakes, and although I’ve never made that one, I’ve made my share. He should be punished, and if this sort of thing happens next year in the SPL, the player will be, because of the video replay punishment rule they’ll be testing out.
