A Name to Remember: Fabio Simplicio

fabio-simplicio.jpgA name like Bob just doesn’t sound very poetic. Sure it is easy to spell and it is even easier to make fun of, but it doesn’t conjure up the image of beauty and grace the way a name like Fabio Simplicio does. I like to think that if I had a flashier name I would be playing professional football for a living even though I have virtually no talent.

Fabio Simplicio has no such problem. He has the name and he has the talent. He is a Brazilian midfielder playing for Palermo in Serie A and he is playing at a high enough level that his name may soon be rolling off your tongue on a frequent basis.

Simplicio started his career with his hometown club, Sao Paulo. He played for the South American giants for four seasons before heading to Parma on a free transfer in 2004. After two seasons with Parma, he signed with Palermo this summer and the way he is playing he might not be with the Sicilian side for too long. Aston Villa is rumored to be interested in the 27-year-old central midfielder who continues to get better each year.

Don’t let the lack of YouTube love fool you. Simplicio is pretty good even if his Internet video resume includes him sitting at a table eating dinner in what could possibly be his game shirt.
