Luciano Moggi Somehow Stoops To A Lower Level
By: chris | April 22nd, 2008
There are a few things all Italians can agree on when it comes to calcio. One is obviously the Azzurri. Another is that they’d all have Gianluigi Buffon’s babies, which is kind of a subcategory of the first one, but worthy of its own statement regardless. And yet another is that everyone despises Luciano Moggi, even (or especially) the Juventus fans. The guy’s a first-rate jackass and self-promoter. So what do first-rate jackassy self-promoters do to shine the light firmly on themselves? Bash homosexuals in the press. Good god would somebody whack this guy already…..
From the horse’s mouth to your ears:
“There are no gays in football, I don’t know if players are against having them in their team but I definitely am,” he said.“In the teams where I worked there were never any. I never wanted to have a homosexual player and I still wouldn’t sign one.
“I’m old school but I know the ambience of football and a gay wouldn’t be able to survive within it.
“A homosexual cannot do the job of a footballer. The football world is not designed for them, it’s a special atmosphere, one in which you stand naked under the showers.”
First of all, let’s figure out what planet Moggi is currently on thinking that there are no homosexual players in football. Come on.
Call me naive but I’ve never understood why sexual preference was a discerning factor in the field of sports. If you can play, you can play. Therefore, I’m pretty sure a homosexual can do “the job of a footballer”. Or a heterosexual. Or an omnisexual. Or an asexual. Whatever you happen to be.
Part of Moggi’s incessant PR movement is that he’ll say absurd things to get attention. So with these statements you also have to understand he’s saying this at least partly to make the headlines, because it’s not a good day for him unless he’s involved on Page 1. But it’s hard to believe words this strong aren’t immersed somewhere in his twisted sense of “values”, if that’s what you want to call them.
I’d personally love it if his five year Calciopoli related ban was extended for bring the sport into disrepute or something. Because there’s plenty of space in football for people of any sexual preference, just no space for people like Luciano Moggi.

I think homosexuals everywhere are pleased that Moggi is ensuring that his sport-destroying values can in no way be related to them.
I think it will be very important as players start coming out to have as little contact whatsoever with that disgusting excuse for a cheating weasel (no disrespect intended to the fine weasel people).

… And now he’s been charged again. Looks like you might get your wish on the suspension getting longer, Chris, even if it’s not for the reason you stated.
