Napoli Fans are betting they can Land Ronaldinho
By: Bob | January 19th, 2007
You can’t fault the Napoli fans for dreaming. They once had the pleasure of supporting Diego Maradona and they would like nothing more than to see a big name player join their club as they try to earn promotion in Serie B. The big name player they have in mind? Ronaldinho. Here’s how the plan on bringing him to Italy.
Ronaldinho currently has a 134 million Euro buy-out clause in his Barcelona contract, which makes him all but untouchable. Even though that is the case, various online betting sites offer you the opportunity to wager where he will play next. Napoli is currently listed with 67-1 odds of landing him. Enter the genius of the Napoli fans.
Their plan is to negotiate a contract buy-out with Ronaldinho first and then throw down a 2 million Euro bet that he will play for their club. Once he does, they’ll pay Barcelona the transfer fee.
This would almost sound illegal if we weren’t talking about Italian football.

Seriously. How can anyone not love Italian football? Even the fans are all about gaming the system — any system.

I love how the “negotiate contract with Ronaldinho” portion of the plan is made to sound as simple as the “boil water” part of making pasta. I can just these folks sitting around, thinking the hardest part of the deal would be to find the online wagering site that offered steep enough odds to maximize their profits. This might actually be the plot of “Ocean’s 13″

Oh man, that is awesome. Just imagine Martha’s article when Ronaldinho signs at Napoli. And if that’s the way the cookie crumbles, Strasbourg are going to sign Fabio Cannavaro in the summer.
