The First, But Probably Not the Last, Alexandre Pato in Serie A Highlights Video

By: Daryl | January 14th, 2008

We brought you news of Alexandre Pato’s debut goal for Milan yesterday, and today we have the video to prove it. The young Brazilian’s 76th minute goal is around the 3:00 mark on this video, but if you’ve got 3 minutes and 26 second to spare I recommend watching the highlights of Milan’s 5-2 win over Napoli from start to finish.

For Milan’s first goal it initially appears that Pato screws up by heading the ball against the bar while on the goal line. But replays show that he risked a kick in the face to make things hard for the Napoli defender desperately trying to clear Ronaldo’s shot off the line. Pato didn’t score but his pressure ensured that Ronaldo did.

Not only was this an exciting game to watch (check out Kaka’s strike) but you can see just how involved Pato was, and how many time he got away from his marker and got a shot away. And when his goal eventually came, it was arguably one of the harder chances he was presented with in the game. But he took down the high ball and beat the defender with his first touch, before side-footing home like he’d been scoring at the San Siro his entire life.

Agreed. So far we’ve gone for a healthy balance of cynicism and celebration, and don’t plan to go too far in either direction.

What’s funny is I was watching the video and found myself thinking, “That looks like Ronaldo. But with hair.”

    Oh. Wait. Right. Milan.

one bad thing about the video is second highlight in it (ronaldo scores) as pato is trying to claim the goal for himself and almost heads it out…he really needs to learn the whole modesty thing like messi or ronaldinho

No worries colman, the video is definitely misleading. I saw it live and my initial reaction was that Pato himself had headed the ball against the bar and royally screwed up his chance at a debut goal.

Daryl,i seriously think…well maybe not you only but all the offside.com team are writting against AC,i think that the whole strategy on the team is very stong on long tearms, the had Sheva, they had kaka, hell they have seedorf and pirlo for a long time now,and Nesta…That makes it a stong team,i think and maybe you should state that in one of your columns for a change, and not so much about cinical remarks, thank you, love the maldini monday thou.Cheers.Keep it Red&Black
