Serie A 2010/11 Schedule Released

By: The Offside | July 28th, 2010

3301337720_31e740a30eThe trumpeted announcement of the Serie A calendar is quite the event, with more subplots than a Aurelio De Laurentiis movie and the draw actually made by monkeys riding tricycles dressed in Armani, vaguely resembling a Lyon kit release in the end.

They also announce the weeks by having a blind man, typically one of their esteemed referees, throwing darts at a dartboard so that it reads something like 1, 2, 8, 17, 9, 4, etc.

But it’s still the Serie A Calendar, and as such, it holds one very important answer: When’s everyone going to start hating each other again?

Easy answer: Week 1.

Not entirely – the juiciest nugget of Week 1 appears to be Fiorentina-Napoli with the first real battle becoming Juve-Sampdoria in Week 2. A very, very far cry from the Milan derby and Roma-Juve in the Week 2 last year; luckily, however, those very same big matchups which turned out to be big mismatches will occur in Week 12 this year – once everyone has had ample time to get their shit together/fire a coach or two. It appears you can teach an old dog new tricks.

(Week 12 also features the Sicilian derby, Palermo v Catania; Italian popo will certainly be earning their checks that weekend.)

This year we’ll have to wait until Week 5 for the first big matchup – depending on how you value the Supercoppa on August 21st – when Inter and Roma dance for the 837th time in the last 4 years. Inter will then follow that up with the Derby d’Italia against Juve.

Those aside it’s the Rome derby in Week 10, the Genoa derby in Week 17, other unmentioned derbies and still yet dozens and dozens of games where the teams and fans just plain don’t like each other (Francesco has it a bit more in-depth). Serie A’s back.
