There will be a Serie A Season, but who knows when?

reggina.jpgJust when you thought that mess known as Italian football couldn’t get any messier, it got messier.

Serie A team Reggina has been indicted on charges of match fixing and trying to have referees friendly to the club assigned to their games. Tapped telephone calls between Reggina president Lillo Foti and former referee designator Paolo Bergamo are being investigated, with six matches from the 2004-05 season under review.

Reggina is the fifth team dragged into this scandal and perhaps the most inept at cheating. Even with favorable referees, the club finished in 15th place last season demonstrating a clear need to improve the effectiveness of match fixing.

Reggina faces a trial on August 13 and if it follows the same appeals process as Juventus, Lazio and the gang, this thing could be dragged out forever. The start of the Serie A season has already been pushed back until September 9 and by the way teams are falling by the wayside I’m giving even money we might see the first game sometime before Christmas.

Will you even watch Serie A this season?

Serie A is a zone for match fixers. Not football.

    And,

Italy is no place for the WC to be in. Its going to come back to the footballing world alright, bt after a tainted for years.

I hope this brings all Italians here like bees to honey, ready to provide their vitriolic comments.

Its nice trying to see them defend their flimsy wins...!
