Toni Gets Robbed, Responds With A Hat Trick
By: chris | February 18th, 2008
Unfortunately for Luca Toni, thieves decided to check Bayern Munich’s game schedule before robbing his house in Modena. They made out with some trophies, supposedly, but managed to leave behind the most important memoir of all: his World Cup winner’s medal. So that was nice of them. Luca was so shook up that he decided to take his frustrations out on Hannover 96 with 3 goals in a 3-0 victory. Let this be a lesson to all Bundesliga opponents: don’t piss off Luca Toni.
First of all, the Italian police need look no further than Luca’s whereabouts on Sunday to find the organization which masterminded this crime: German referees. Luca spent last week saying that he didn’t understand all the whining about Italian referees because they were still better than the German variety. Which is like saying German referees aren’t quite as bright as a brain dead baboon, because Italian refereeing has been horrendous as of late. So that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it. A few weeks from now remember where you heard it first as the German refereeing association comes crashing down.
As for the game this weekend, Luca had a little bit of extra motivation to begin with, as Werder Bremen had closed the gap and sat even with the Bavarians as of the opening whistle. All of Luca’s goals came in the second half, and the first was a splendid little side volley placed right past Robert Enke. Number two was a simple beat the final defender, point and shoot. Third was similar, but this one was actually saved by Enke, but the rebound came high and Luca was able to nod it into the back of the night. Voila, three goals and a three point lead at the top of the table.
So until Luca gets his stuff back, German referees, he’ll continue to torment the Bundesliga.
