A Barca Debut for Bojan

By: Bob | September 17th, 2007

With a roster that included Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto’o, Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho it is pretty easy to get excited about watching Barcelona play, even if they are off to a tortoise-like start in La Liga. While the established big name players are the obvious draw, I have been trying to catch Barca’s games because of a couple of players who could someday be established stars themselves.

Earlier this season we saw the debut of the Mexican starlet (intentional use of a silly word that isn’t ever used in non-football society) Giovani Dos Santos. A debut made at the tender age of 18.

On Sunday Dos Santos officially became an old man when 17-year-old teammate Bojan Krkic earned first team action for Barca. Krkic, who was simply fabulous at the U17 World Cup for Spain earlier this summer, popped his Barca cherry with ten minutes of action in a 0-0 draw against Osasuna. He didn’t score, but he didn’t look out of place with the big boys and he did make a YouTube inspired move in the box.

It is hard to say how much playing time Krkic will see this season, especially when Barca’s regulars come back from injury. But it does get the heart pumping thinking of him teaming up with Dos Santos and Messi, who is still just 20 years old and was a tad older than Krkic when he made his Barcelona debut, for years to come.

I agree. I felt that Henry was a good buy as he had been such a good leader for the Arsenal youth. But I also thought that Eto’o was gone because it was too much talent and would impede these kids. Hopefully they don’t get frustrated and leave. Although Krkic is Catalan, so it is less likely than Dos Santos.

Glad to see he is finally getting a chance!!

Him and Dos Santons are the new batch of potential star players to roll off the Barcelona conveyor belt.

Although im sure he says his name is Bojan and prefers not to be called Krkic??
