As Your World Turns, Valencia Edition
By: chris | May 22nd, 2008
Good lord. You’d think that after the abysmal stretch they spent together Valencia players and Ronald Koeman would love nothing more than to never speak of each other again. Not the case at all, though I’m guessing some journos with specific questions are partly to blame here.
Joaquin seems to have the most to say regarding the Flailing Dutchman (says he’s a lush), and Ronnie isn’t taking it in stride (says Joaquin’s worth less than the decent bottle of wine he just drank – make that the 7 decent bottles of wine he just drank). What is this, kindergarten?
Joaquin takes offense with Ronnie’s adult beverage consumption habits:
“The only thing Koeman was worried about was dining with five or seven bottles of wine.”
“When he left he did not say goodbye to the players and instead walked out with £4-5 million. Vora has recorded the same results or better than Koeman did in five months.”
So Koeman’s an alcoholic, apparently, with the tolerance of Robert Downey Jr. and Courtney Love’s unborn lovechild. Nice.
Ronnie retorted with a not-so-nice valuation of Mr. Joaquin:
“The strange thing was that the players whom I no longer used [José Santi Cañizares, David Albelda and Miguel Ángel Angulo] continued to train with the rest of the squad and make their way into the team’s dressing rooms. They created a negative environment with the support of others, such as Joaquín. Those footballers cost 30 million each, but had an output of 30 euros.”
Class work, Ronald. How is it you plan to seek respect from your future players again?
World football, never a day devoid of drama.
