Barcelona Enjoying their U$ Tour

ronfingers.jpgIn addition to lasting memories and photos for their scrapbook, Barcelona will come away from their tour of the United States with a pocketful of money.

The Spanish club are expected to make $4.7 million for playing three exhibition matches in the States, including one in LA that drew an amazing 92,000 fans. This is four times what the club made during a US visit in 2003.

“The European champions are even more of a media and social attraction than ever, and this has been reflected in the income received from the trip,” the club bragged on its website, adding that “the Barca name is perhaps the most marketable in the world right now.”

Bacerlona is hoping that the US tour will help make it the richest club in the world, surpassing even the earning power of archrival Real Madrid.

But marketing and commercial manager Esteve Calzada insisted the club wanted to get its priorities right and establish a bond with fans.

“We do not want people to think that the club operates as a means of generating money,” he said.

As we said, the US tour was just as much about visiting an exotic land as it was about making bucks.
