Barcelona Take El Clásico
By: chris | December 13th, 2008Barca 2 – Real 0
Real Madrid deserve kudos for their efforts, but this one was simply too much Barcelona. At one point late in the game possession was 73% to the Catalans, a mountain insurmountable against a team of their quality. The Real Madrid’s valiant wall efforts were holding strong and, as usual, Iker Casillas was nothing short of deified, brilliantly saving two Eto’o shots (no less credit to Victor Valdez, it should be said, as he saved a 1v1 with Drenthe to keep it scoreless in the first half). All too much, however, when Captain Caveman leapt over the Madrid defense to set up a sitter for Samuel on Iker’s doorstep. Messi got his late revenge after taking a season’s worth of fouls in the first half alone by chipping Casillas on the counter (post jump), enabling Barca to continue their roll towards a seemingly inevitable league title. Only December, but they look nothing short of invincible.
