Cat Fight! Luis Fabiano vs. Diogo

By: Bob | January 8th, 2007

After a couple of weeks off for the holiday break, Spain’s La Liga was back in action this weekend and perhaps the highlight (or the lowlight) was towards the end of the match between Sevilla and Zaragoza. As you can see in the video below, Sevilla’s Luis Fabiano and Zaragoza’s Diogo both release some of their pent up holiday stress by swinging at each other like a couple of high school girls fighting in a cafeteria. To be fair, Diogo’s first punch is worthy of the commentator’s comparisons to Muhammad Ali, but from there it becomes apparent why these two guys get paid to use their feet and not their fists.

Awesome. I haven't seen windmilling like that since kindergarten. I'm sure there will be hefty suspensions for both players. Fabiano certainly kicked things off in the physical sense, but I wouldn't be surprised if Diogo gets harsher punishment since he hammered Fabiano with the first punch.

When are players going to get the message, and learn the lesson, that every single thing they do on the pitch is going to be captured by a camera. Even if there were no punches thrown, their early niggles would have resulted in some action after the match.

Football is the new hockey. That was a nice right though.
