El Clásico: Barcelona vs Real Madrid – Who Are You Supporting?
By: Daryl | December 13th, 2008
Fantabulous Clasico stream here – necessary software (it’s Veetle) if needed here. Feel free to discuss the game in the comments as well.
You probably already know all this, but humour me by reading the preamble:
It’s the El Clásico this evening in Spain. In-form Leo Messi-tastic free-scoring Barcelona vs injury-ravaged and out-of-form but now-under-new-management Real Madrid.
El Clásico is always big (here are 10 reasons why it might be the greatest game in the world) but this one’s a little bit extra special because it’s Juande Ramos’ first La Liga game as Real coach.
We have two excellent and in-depth previews (and I’m not just saying that) for you, from Isaiah at Barcelona Offside and from Corey at Real Madrid Offside.
Obviously Barça fans will be supporting Barça, and Real fans will be supporting Real. But this is such a big game, that plenty of non-partizans will be watching. And I’m especially interested in who those neutrals will be supporting. So if you’re not a Barça or Real fan, please let us know who you’ll be supporting today.
Will you be cheering for brilliant Barca? Or supporting struggling Real? Or will you just be watching as a neutral?
I’ll get us started… I usually favour Barça, but for trivial reasons. I’ve been to the Nou Camp, but not to the Bernabéu. Also, the whole Galactico business made me a little uncomfortable.
However, I have a lot of sympathy for poor Juande Ramos. He had a rough time at Spurs (possibly his own fault, but still…) and can’t help thinking it would be nice to see him get off to a good start with what would be an unlikely (according to Bernd Schuster anyway) win.

Eirik, it takes trial and error, but you can usually find some good streams here:

I don’t really like either team….especially Real, owing to the Juve-Real euro rivalry. But Real’s pretty desperate, and I’d love someone to take the wind/steroids out of Barca.

Barca have had some wonderful players down the years, and I quite like this current crop, so I’ll probably find myself supporting Barca, but mainly pretty neutral. Gonna be fun though.

Messi is going to lose an Achilles by the time this game is over.

I have been to Camp Nou once and it was a great experience and got to know some of their supporters, which are great people. Still I am in favor of Real which has been my favorite club for decades.

A Juventino suggesting that Barca are on steroids really takes the cake . . .

Hope Messi has insurance on his achilles tendons, they surely wont last the whole match.

Ok the Hack-A-Messi tactic is starting to wear thin. This is getting absurd. Very classy!

Barca, because King Franco FC deserves to lose.

I will be disappointed if Messi’s team will not win El clasico tonight, they deserve it and they will get it.

Corey-Like an unskilled tennis player, you missed the point.
Good to see Real’s “Wattienaccio” not rewarded with any points. It wasn’t a classic “El Clasico” (no pun intended), but it wasnt bad either. A PK, a PK Save, and two decent goals.

“CATALONIA IS NOT SPAIN! Like Celtic, Barca is certainly MES QUE UN CLUB! Visca Barça!”
LOL here’s someone who will be frustrated for life, as long as we live…you will be spain..too bad. Not that we really care, we’re just not going to allow them run away without taxes…rich aristocratic stooges.
Anyways…i assume there will be more dutch followers following Real and more africans rallying for Barca (the unicef front works)…not too sure about the argentinians…messi is the big bet but we have the rising higuain and a far improved gago. Regardless, the catalans will always pretend to be in the lower spectre and who’ve been abused, what can i say, im a madridista and i love it, its not the same without a nemesis, in real we trust and barca we loathe. Visca that.
P.S: The only self proclaimed maricon is Pep, fact. Which is why barca players are always tumbling on the ground, makes sense huh?
Hala Madrid y Viva España lol acuerdate de Almansa pringao!

Im just curious….you mention you tend to not like madrid due to the galactico era…but wasn’t barca’s post Ronaldinho era equal to Real’s Zizou era? Real won 3 CL in a decade, and afterwards sunk, just like barca as well
