Is it ok for a 105-year-old Nun to have a crush on David Beckham?

nuns_football.jpgWe all know by now that watching football is not good for your health. In fact, it might even kill you, especially if you root for my team – I suffer a slow death each match. But the sport doesn’t have that affect on everyone, of course. Witness the case of Sister Mar’a Calvo Casares.

Sister Casares is 105 years old, which makes her a year older than the little old club she roots for.

“I’ve supported Real Madrid since I was a little girl and all I want is for the team to win. I’ve prayed for Madrid so many times, but it’s not always a success,’ she said.

It is not often that I get to say this to a 105-year-old nun, but all I can say is: Amen, sister.

Sister Casares was recognized for her loyal support by Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon, who presented her with a scarf and an autographed ball. There is no official word whether she told Calderon to re-sign David Beckham or if she offered to pack his bags.

By the way, if you support the same club as Sister Casares than you’ll want to check out the All in White blog.

I have a feeling this same 105 year old nun was a loyal supporter of Francisco Franco.
