Ronaldinho: The $180 Million Man
By: Bob | July 11th, 2007
There reaches a point where a monetary figure is so high that you lose the ability to comprehend it. The 13-figure US national debt is an example. The money being talked about for a Ronaldinho transfer to AC Milan is another. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Milan are prepared to buy out the Brazilian midfielder’s contract with Barcelona for a cool 125-million euros.
That translates to $180 million US dollars, $89 million British pounds and 624-million Malaysian Ringgits. And that is just to release Ronaldinho from his contract. Presumably Milan would have to pay him something each week as well so that the lad could get a bite to eat.
Putting aside the idea that we live in a crazy ass world where even talk of this much money being spent on a single human is acceptable, is Ronaldinho a good investment for AC Milan? After all, this is a club that won the Champions League without him. This is also a player that is obviously still among the best in the world, but who didn’t exactly set the world on fire with his play last year.
For that much money Milan could probably buy four or five or 10 quality players and/or a small country.

For that kind of cash Silvio could buy: hair, immortality, the entire starting lineup of the ‘94 and ‘02 Brazilian National Team, and A BRAIN!!!!!!!!

That’s incredible. If that happens , Barca will have traded Ronnie for: Thierry Henry AND 73 million pounds net! Not bad.

In a shocking decision that has rocked modern civilization to its very core — Keyshawn Johnson chose Kobe Bryant as ‘more now’ that Ronny in ESPN’s ridiculously stupid Summer filling segment. Twat.

But can they recoup the investment in jersey sales? I’ve reached the conclusion that the only reason the world’s top players get passed around the big European clubs every year is for the merchandising revenue.

Nick: Agreed. That NOW thing is unwatchable, but I like how they have two gridiron football players on there pontificating on athletes from sports they do not watch or understand. Helpful!

If Milan really paid that amount, I think even the die-hard Ronnie-loving Barca supporters would happily let him go and thank Berlusconi for funding our transfer spending for this season and at least 2 more.

Never gonna happen. Sensationalist story to sell newspapers. He’d be worth somewhere in the top half of the 30’s (million pounds), but no team will buy him for over £40m any time soon (except maybe Abramovich FC).

Milan cracks me up. Sometimes I can’t understand why I still stand by them. Berlusconi is a nutcase.
