Sevilla is sponsored by the Devil

satan-jersey.jpgWith the amount of advertising that takes place on and off the pitch it is pretty easy to grow numb to it all. Sevilla forward Fredi Kanoute, however, is taking a stand against his team’s new shirt sponsor, an online gambling company.

Kanoute, who is a practicing Muslim from Mali, said: “Gambling is the work of Satan. It is forbidden by the Koran and I will not play in a shirt that promotes it.”

Fair enough. We’ve lost a few quid in our day and every time we blame our own person Satan, Oliver Kahn, too. If he doesn’t want to wear a shirt that says 888.com or 666, than good on him.

Sevilla is accommodating Kanoute by allowing him to play in a shirt without the sponsor’s logo. We only wonder what would happen if he played for a club featuring our favorite sponsor.
