Sevilla is sponsored by the Devil
By: Bob | September 6th, 2006
With the amount of advertising that takes place on and off the pitch it is pretty easy to grow numb to it all. Sevilla forward Fredi Kanoute, however, is taking a stand against his team’s new shirt sponsor, an online gambling company.
Kanoute, who is a practicing Muslim from Mali, said: “Gambling is the work of Satan. It is forbidden by the Koran and I will not play in a shirt that promotes it.”
Fair enough. We’ve lost a few quid in our day and every time we blame our own person Satan, Oliver Kahn, too. If he doesn’t want to wear a shirt that says 888.com or 666, than good on him.
Sevilla is accommodating Kanoute by allowing him to play in a shirt without the sponsor’s logo. We only wonder what would happen if he played for a club featuring our favorite sponsor.
