Sevilla Keeper gets pelted with Fruits and Vegetables from Nearby Flat

view1.jpgOne can imagine that Sevilla goalkeeper David Cobeno was looking forward to his club’s match against Rayo Vallecano in the King’s Cup on Wednesday. Cobeno used to play for Rayo Vallecano so it was a bit of a homecoming for him until the home fans started chucking fruits and vegetables at him from a flat that overlooks the stadium.

“Nothing like this has ever happened to me on a soccer field,” Cobeno was quoted by sports daily Marca on Thursday. “I was amazed. The lady of the house must have emptied her larder. They threw everything at me. The potatoes were very big.”

For those of you who are like me and don’t speak English, a larder is a cool storing area for food that was common in houses before the use of refrigerators. Nowadays they are simply used to store projectiles to be thrown at opposing goalkeepers.

Cobeno said he knew the people throwing the produce at him, “I know which flat it was. It’s on the fourth floor because I spent a lot of time there.”

Perhaps they were just trying to help him ward off scurvy?
