The Devil is in the Details

There is nothing really remarkable about this picture. Reuters simply describes it as Sevilla’s Fredi Kanoute celebrating a goal against Osasuna on Sunday. Careful and even careless readers will note that Kanoute’s jersey bears the logo of an online gambling company. No big deal. But you might also recall that Kanoute asked his club a few months ago to grant him permission to play in a shirt without the sponsor’s logo and said at the time: “Gambling is the work of Satan. It is forbidden by the Koran and I will not play in a shirt that promotes it.”

He’s entitled to change his mind, of course, but it did catch my attention this weekend.
