Zlatan Is Having A Better Week Than You – Unless Your Name Is Lionel Messi, That Is.

By: chris | December 3rd, 2009

This Zlatan Ibrahimovic character is having quite the week for a substitute. After playing the hero in a substitute’s appearance against slightly disliked opponent Real Madrid, he was left on the bench for the midweek trip to Andalusia and the fixture against Xerez, which is Spanish for “how are they in the top division again?”. Barca, as you may guess, won, though it was a pesky performance from Xerez in what was largely a snorefest. At least it was until Zlatan entered the pitch.

Mr. Tae Kwon Doe once again performed a move that belongs only to him in recent memory, and adds to his ever-glittering array of highlight reels. Juggling the ball as so many can, he then passed the ball while it was at eye level with one foot still on the ground as so few, if any, have. That’s flexibility you won’t find off the shelf anywhere. It was called a free kick – incorrectly if you ask most – but the outcome was largely moot. Dude’s skilled.

With the game still in the balance, albeit barely, Barcelona required a second goal to put matters to bed. A sublime pass to Andres Iniesta, by who else, would’ve sealed it could Andres hit the ocean from a boat right now; he can’t. Ibra then took care of matters by casually chipping Renan from 20 yards at the death.

Yet somehow, Zlatan is only having the second best week at Barcelona. Go figure.

Barca fans are used to Iniesta not scoring. Last season, he probably hit the post more than the entire league put together.

Ibra's little ninja moves were neat but useless. That prick of a ref blew his whistle.

Soccer Aff & Star_bury, how 'bout you guys go out and buy a sense of humour. It makes this site waaaaaay more enjoyable.

Barca's three subs get paid, in total, 20x more than the entire Xerez team. To me that's a pretty good indicator that the Xerez coach, and the team, are net net a lot better than Barca.

The Iniesta miss is absolutely awful... The funny part is that it actually looked like it went in to most viewers, haha.

Also, this means that Iniesta's "slump" continues. Last time Iniesta scored a goal? Six months ago against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

I could be wrong, but I believe Xerex is in the top division due to winning the Segunda last year. At least, I'm pretty sure that's how the promotion/relegation system in Spain works.

They may not stay up, but they have as much right to be there as the next team.

I'm taken aback by the comment "how are they in the top division again?" which indicates the writer is either:
    1) football clueless
    2) blinded by celebrity endorsement ads
    3) on the dole of big clubs
    4) busy wanking instead of watching the game.

Xeres had about 3 chances where they could have scored on Barca. They played a surprisingly good match. It did get boring at time. I really like defensive minded matches at times, and this had potential to be one, but silly mistakes from both sides ruined that.
