Name To Remember: Danijel Aleksic
By: chris | May 19th, 2009If you’re been paying attention to various broadsheets carefully this year, Danijel Aleksic isn’t a new name. And if you believe those papers, everyone in Europe wants Aleksic. Really – if you cared to do enough research/have no life, I’m sure you’d find he’s been linked to every single big(ish) team on the continent in the last year or so. That’s quite the accomplishment for a kid who’s only a fresh 18 and playing for a Serbian team which isn’t one of traditional powers Red Star or Partizan.
Long story short: Aleksic is a super technical wonderkid currently playing for Vojvodina who, like every well-rounded striker, could be put into the Van Basten category of “scores goals every which way and then some”. He also made his Serbian senior int’l bow at 17 and became the youngest ever debutant in the Serbian Superliga just days after he turned 16 – no small feat given how much young talent that league churns out for Western Europe’s big boys.
His list of admirers reads like a former G-14 roll call – with Arsene reportedly near convulsions as you’d expect – but the kid’s got a good head on his shoulders and says he’ll only go to the Eredivise or Bundesliga as the first step on his career journey. Places where he can play a ton of minutes and progress as the 18yo he is. Something which has shot Ajax to the forefront in recent days where he could replace the latest new Van Basten in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar – though they’ll be usurped by the latest suitor by the time the weekend comes.
But regardless of what team Aleksic joins in the near future, the Serbian national team is putting together one hell of a young generation. One which might serve to remove the stain of what was supposed to be a promising World Cup 2006 run.
