Avram Grant’s Unfriendly Friendly

By: chris | Comments View Comments

avram-grantOver the past several, oh, thousand years, there have been a serious of minor skirmishes in the Middle East, along with lots of “I don’t like you.” and “You’re a stupid head.” being flung back and forth.

It’s no secret that Iran and Israel aren’t exactly cuddle buddies. And it does occasionally seep into the footballing world, despite being a part of different federations – such as the case with Ashkan Dejagah.

And now Avram Grant’s Partizan has joined the “no thank you” list.

Playing For Food On The Table

By: chris | Comments View Comments

pesosWell, I’m not sure how much the players of San Luis FC net, but from now on, or at least until someone gets a look at the nitty gritty of their contracts, they’ll be playing for their pay – no win, no money – against the bottom club in the Mexican Primera.

Which has probably sent a stampeding hoard of underemployed lawyers to the party willing to offer their services.

The Algerian-Russian Connection

By: chris | Comments View Comments

508890102It's not always good news, is it? Though this seems it could be at least partly the plot to a Bond film, so if any of the victims fancy whipping up a quick screenplay - and they are - there's certainly some money to be made from this.

There's been a disturbing trend of disabled children of those who played for the Algerian national football team roundabout the time a Russian doctor with mysterious practices showed up in the early 80's.

Even the mere plot seem cliched enough to be grounds for guilt.

Photo: Horsing Around In Amsterdam

By: chris | Comments View Comments

508924861

This just has to be one of the great photos about fans being arrested by mounted policeman near sex shops in the Amsterdam Red Light District as Manchester United is visiting in the Europa League, doesn’t it?

From the presence of the large beast under the “Live Sex” sign to the rather angry gentleman in front losing his marbles to the frightened onlookers finished off by the gentleman in the bottom right coolly drinking his suds while it all transpires, this is just wonderful all around. As though there’s a curious detail to be spotted at every turn.

It’d look good as a commissioned painting for someone who doesn’t particularly care about their marriage.

The Football Life

By: chris | Comments View Comments

This is a most excellent short on a man unknown to the masses, but can still inspire a moving expose the life he’s dedicated to football. Even rarer is that it can be done with what is mostly the spoken word and a sequence of photographs set to a subtle, moving soundtrack. It’s hardly the type of film you expect from the internet, with a blaring background at hyperspeed set to the trickery of the world’s biggest stars, and it’s all the better for it.

By: chris | Comments View Comments

138961433It’s like the schoolyard all over again.

Charlie Adam: The First Six Games

A great game all around from Bayern.  The first 10-12 minutes were a little nervy, I admit, but after both teams settled in, it was clear who were the better side.  Gomez gets him name into the sheet twice, but for my money it was Ribery and Kroos who really
