You can’t score penalties from your ass, John. (Really unfortunate for him, though.) (AFP Photo/Franck Fife)

Poor John. I was a neutral in this game, but had decided I wanted to see Chelsea win it, largely because of how much I like John Terry. It’s going to be a long summer, with that last touch of the ball to think about.

i ditto Ian’s comment. while john was walking up to take that kick i was telling my dad that he deserves this more than anyone (and that i wanna see ronaldo cry). alas, poor john slipped at the vital moment. unlucky…

I would’ve hated to see the puddle would Lampard have missed, though…

John - true enough - I wouldn’t have wanted to see Lampard miss either, but much more for the kind of month he’s had. Overall, I’m not a big Lampard fan, not nearly as much as Terry.

Yeah its really not nice that it happened to JT. I said as he was stepping up that i admired his balls. Hope he can bounce back and have a Stuart Pearce type moment in the future.

Really could not happen to a more deserving chap. Seriously, why all the fawning over Terry? He is an odious little oik. Beating people up, urinating on people’s property, mocking Americans hours after 9/11. Those aren’t the actions of a decent human being. Plus, he’s somewhat overrated as a defender and his “iron man” mentality is pathetic. Forcing yourself to play when you are not fully fit is not noble or brave, it’s idiotic and selfish.

Terry has got to be inconsolable. I really feel bad for him. But Grant was right — they wouldn’t have made it that far without him.

I feel so sorry for him. So sorry. Rock on Terry, led like a true captain.

Tom - I’m not a massive fan of Terry, but I do respect that he gives his everything to the Chelsea cause, and you can see how much it hurt him that it was his penalty that cost Chelsea the Champions League. Some players - I’m thinking maybe Ashley Cole - I wouldn’t really worry about, but Terry, whatever his faults, loves the game, and loves Chelsea, and at the end of the day he is going to be geniunely devestated, and noone wants that.
