Photo of the Day: Heads Up
By: Daryl | April 1st, 2008
Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo ran very very fast from very very far to jump very very high and beat Roma’s Marco Cassetti to a Paul Scholes cross. Ronaldo’s towering header gave United a 1-0 lead not long before half time.
The photo’s a but blurry, but it’s now very clear that Ronaldo doesn’t disappear in big games, and will run half the length of the field to make sure of it. Rooney scored in the second half to give Man Utd a 2-0 win over Totti-less Roma, who now face an uphill battle in the return leg at Old Trafford.

That should settle it.. against a top quality Italian opposition at their home! This boy is a legend in the making. Enjoy it while the show is on!!!

That header did a lot for Ronaldo’s place in my mind. I’ve never thought of his as particularly tough (the diving doesn’t help) but he had nothing in mind but the goal and knocked himself for a loop in the process. Very good goal.

What a match. Ronaldo is truly the best player in the world at the moment, he has it all. And when did he actually last dive? I can’t remember one this season.
And Rooney’s work ethic is fantastic. Before the game I said I wouldn’t replace a single United player with any of Roma’s – when I saw the teamsheet I wanted to retract that statement due to Park’s presence, but even he came up with a fantastic game and a crucial assist!
Congratulations United. Bad luck Roma.

He quite literally showed critics that he doesn’t disappear in big games… quite the opposite, he appears out of nowhere.
Amazed at the talent, but still sad as a Roma supporter

what a choker … gosh he doesn’t show up for big games does he? … BOLLOCKS
could’ve had a hat-trick of stunners (shot off the post (saved?), and the volley at the end) and had a damn good game otherwise.

How could you have bet against Manchester United with Ronaldo on legendary form and out to prove a point (re: that he doesn’t disappear in big matches)?

I know anything can happen, but holy crap, ManYoo have got to be favorites to win this thing, don’t you think?

Amazing picture. The more I watch this kid this year, the more it seems his ego is expanding to epic proportions. But – damn! – He really is a spectacular athlete. He is headed into the ranks of the greatest. The next few years are going to be very fun to watch!
