Poll: Did SWP Waste His Time at Chelsea?
By: Daryl | August 28th, 2008
Shaun-Wright Phillips has finally listened to what everyone has been telling him for the last three years and got the hell out of Chelsea. In what feels like an admission that maybe he shouldn’t have gone there in the first place, SWP has rejoined Man City for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £9 million (which is a lot less than the £21 million Man City originally sold him for in 2005. Good business at Eastlands, eh?)
But was SWP’s time at Stamford Bridge so bad? He didn’t play an awful lot (82 games in three seasons, mostly from the bench) and hasn’t helped his international career (hands up everyone who thought he’d be an England regular by now) but he does have Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup winners medals, none of which he’d have won at Man City. Oh, and a truckload of cash from two signing on fees and a healthy Chelsea paypacket.
And at 26 he’s still got plenty years to go, and the experience of playing for one of the world’s biggest clubs.
So, was SWP’s time at Chelsea a complete waste? Is football more about medals or more about playing time? Vote below:

I don’t know… he’s only 26 after all and has his best years ahead of him I think. I say it wasn’t a waste. His time at Chelsea might’ve been his only chance at some trophies, and now that he has those he can focus on all the other points of his career as a footballer. I wish him luck! (I wish Man City some luck, too - they barely escaped disaster in UEFA today )

Did he waste his own time? No, he has enough money to walk away from the game in a few years comfortably. Good for him Did he waste my time, as a fan who expected to see him develop as a player for club and country? Of course. Medals don’t mean a thing when you “win” them from the bench, unless we think Cudicini is a trophy-caliber goalkeeper.

He’s also been training with the best coaches and players for the past couple of years.

he’ll never get those years back. the time at which a player reaches old age in terms of football seems to get sooner and sooner. a complete waste in my view. the transfer values alone confirm this.

To many players ruin there careers going to the top 4 well knowing they will not start a game that often. This does not show love for the game but love for the money.

As a player if you dont play for your team for many games mean u are wasting your time eventhough you get alot amounts of salary . i believe in training ground SWP work so hard for first team football but he just cant put on the performance that manager would wanted. this are the list of 3 player from world class to becoming rubbish player
:SWP from ManC to chelsea
T.Henry from arsl to barca
Shevchenco from ACMilan to chelsea
but they are many more … so footballer need to learn the likes of Zidane , L.Ronaldo , alan Shearer D.Beckham and more..this are player that are very loyalty to the club they went and sign for other club just at the right time of their career or just stay forever .
