Poll: Did UEFA look the other way with Rooney?

By: chris | December 15th, 2008

Slow day, which means perhaps the biggest news – it’s even made American front pages – is that UEFA has decided not to suspend the devilish Red Devil Wayne Rooney for performing Riverdance on Dane Kasper Rigard’s chest. The stomp, I think, looks like it does leave the slightest of cracks in a watertight theory, but it’s the other evidence from the game, particularly the horrible studs up lunge at the defender (all the evidence here), which surely deserved some sort of reprimand. A slap on the wrist, even.

Of course, it’s been said before there are two sets of rules: those that apply to their opponents and those that apply to Manchester United. Did UEFA look the other way for the sake of their current champions? Or were they right to leave it be?

…i dont see how it was a foul. He was falling backwards and tried to keep his balance and stumbled over the player between his legs who was also grabbing onto Rooney’s knee. I think that’s why.

Mele, I would have thought that too if I hadn’t seen him do exactly the same thing with the crotch stomp in WC 2006.

uefa decided not to punish rooney because for once they acted reasonably at least much more tha people chris (author of this post) and laurie woudl have done. if they had used the useless newspaper reorts then rooney would have been in trouble, but they did not. they used their head to judge from what they could see. it seems everyone is realising that the british press are becoming more of a joke as the days roll by. incompetent lot.

I think it was probably a case of Aalborg not asking UEFA to review the other stomps – looks like they only reviewed the one, which obviously was deemed not malicious.
