A Ball Boy Scores a Goal and it Counts
By: Bob | September 12th, 2006This beauty comes from Brazil’s Paulista Football Federation (FPF) Cup on Sunday where in the 89th minute a player for Santacruzense took a shot that went wide of the goal. Check out what the ball boy in green does with the ball. It is not like he is even subtle about it. Unbelievably, the referee awarded a goal on the play and Santacruzense ended up with a 1-1 draw against Atletico Sorocaba. Not surprisingly, the referee and her linesmen are facing a suspension. There is no truth to the rumor that the ball boy is reportedly negotiating a contract to help cheat for a bigger club.

That is a classic. I love how the players on the ball boy’s team celebrate like they actually scored the goal. That referee should never step foot on a field again. Talk about an inexcusable blunder.

God I wish that was not a woman. Sigh.
Now, are they thinking anyone was payed off? It seems way too incredible otherwise.

It wasn’t even the game ball that the ball boy kicked into the goal - the game ball was still sitting off to the side. Hard to beleive the footbal association would uphold a goal in the last minute of a match, where the play was dead, and a non-player kicks a non-game-ball into the net.

If you watch the beginning of the video carefully, it is clear that a goal was scored, bouncing off the back of the net and then rolling out of the goal through a hole in the side netting. I don’t understand the commentator, but I bet that is what happened. The ball boy may have rolled the ball into the net as a way to bring attention to the goal. There are several people examining the hole in the net, also.

Coach Barry, from that angle it does seem like the ball almost goes into the net, but I’m guessing the ball goes just right of the post, ricochets off the fence they have back there, and bounces alongside the net to creat the illusion. I’m guessing this because none of the attacking players (nor anyone) were signalling a goal after the shot.

If that’s the case, why doesn’t anyone react when the goal is scored? Not plausible.

There is no way that goal was scored, the last goal I scored in competitive soccer I celebrated like crazy, I didnt just walk away, expecially in the 89th minute. That ball must have definitely gone wide!

It was goal…look carefully…the lateral side of the net is loose.

Exactly, Coach Barry. Whether or not the goal was actually scored on the initial shot, this whole thing is not about the ballboy rolling the ball over the line; it’s about the ref checking the side netting and deciding that the ball was scored on the first shot. She may be right, she may be wrong, but her decision to award the goal has nothing to do with the ballboy rolling the ball over the line. (Full marks, though, to the ballboy for bringing the goal to everyone’s attention by rolling the ball over the line, and for lifting up the side netting twice during the ensuing argument to show that the ball had rolled out of the net.

I paused it several times while watching it and it does appear like the ball went into the net and came out through a whole in the netting which the ballboy points out several times. If this is the case it is actually very good referreeing. Plus, the ref is pretty cute so I have to give her the benefit of the doubt.

your crazy the ball hits the side netting then the back post.. it never went into the net.. noone is examining the side of the net, the ballboy is simply faking like theres a hole incase he gets called on it

Look carefully…the ball goes into the net. All’s you have to do is watch the spin and angle of the ball. The ball boy did the correct thing. The center isn’t calling what the ball boy did a goal, it had already happened and everyone was on their way back to the center.

It’s clear in the video that the Red player #3 shows the ref something on the side of the net. I couldn’t tell one way or another if it was into the side or a goal…but player reactions look like it wasn’t a goal.

You lot who think the ball went in must be stark raving mad!
You can pause it and clearly see the ball goes right of the post and everyone is not on their way back to the centre of the pitch because a goal was scored (which no one celebrated by the way!!!), they were on their way out of the area because you have to be out of their for a goal kick!!!Ridiculous, if this ref is not banned, the goal disallowed and the ball boy stoned then the football world should hang it’s head in a cheat fuelled shame.
Rant over!

Look carefully. Its not the even the ball that was in play, but one further back which the ball boy deceided to use.

So let’s say the ref thought the goalie kicked the ball into the net from the resulting goal kick, even if this did happen then she should have awardeded a corner.
For those of you who think the ball went in without the ballboy’s intervention, get some glasses.
This woman needs to be banned for life for this decision. This is unforgivable, hats off to the ballboy though, he was having a laugh, he didn’t know the ref was a muppet, or did he? that’s why he probably did it, she had probably been giving decisions like for that for the previous 88 minutes.Posted from

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AAAAAAAAAAAAAA LLLLLLLLLLLLL!
Oh, and like Andythekeeper said, nobody with a functioning brain will argue that the ball went in. When’s the last time you saw a player score a goal, then put his head down and walk away? Give me a freakin’ break!

You bunch of pu**ies!!! That shi* was clearly in and slipped out through a hole. I should smack all of you with my big toe.

If you thinkthat ball went in then you’re crazy….andythekeeper talks sense throughout…for a start look at the angle from where the shot leaves the strikers foot, he is clearly well to the right of the post hence the shot went from right to left towards the goal and therefore would continue to do so and had it gone between the posts it would have ended up in the left hand corner of the net….unless of course it hit a mole in the back of the net who headed it to the right of the net. (sic) So it clearly must have missed the goal and hit the right hand side netting. Think about it, laws of physics….durh! Up the owls!

Robtheowlsfan, you need to take a closer look. After the winger crosses the ball infront of goal, the ball is nudged towards the goal by a player in a red shirt. That’s how the ball ends up going towards the lower right corner of the goal instead of going across the goal.

closer look shows it was in.
