A Name to Remember: Anderson
By: Bob | September 27th, 2006
Some people call him the “New Ronaldinho”. Why we need a new Ronaldinho when the current model is just fine is a question for another day, but there is no denying that Anderson Luis de Abreu Oliveira - Anderson to his buddies - is generating a lot of interest around the football world.
The 18-year-old Brazilian made his debut for FC Porto in March. He joined the Portuguese powerhouse after cutting his stripes with Gremio in the Brazilian league. He has made a name for himself more so on the international level than with his club play, winning the Adidas Golden Ball while playing for Brazil at the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
A creative playmaker with a diminutive frame, Anderson is already being targeted by some of the bigger clubs in the world, including Chelsea and Barcelona. The kid is awfully young and still needs to get stronger, but he is exciting to watch and he does have his own YouTube video with soundtrack below, a sure sign he is going to be good.

He does look talented and if he can make waves in Portugal this year he has a shot at moving to a bigger (and thus arguably better) league — especially if Chelsea or Barcelona nab him, but he seems so unproven if his YouTube video is to be believed. Most of the clips are him not scoring…which is not usually a good thing in a hype video…
The transition from Brazil to the elite clubs of Europe is a big one and it’s not easy to do it, but definitely if he can make an impact he’s a part of a growing number of new “lights” coming out of Brazil. I think Sobis is proving detractors wrong at Betis and there’s no reason not to think Anderson can’t do the same.
