A Name to Remember: Philippe Coutinho

By: Daryl | July 24th, 2008

You may have already heard of Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho. He was the obscenely talented young Vasco de Gama player that Real Madrid tried (and failed) to lure to Spain earlier this year by offering his father a job.

But where Madrid failed, Inter Milan have succeeded. For a reported 3.8 million euros, Inter have signed the now sixteen year old, though in a Pato-esque situation Coutinho can’t play in Serie A until he’s 18 and so will stay with Vasco for another couple of seasons.

Why all the fuss over a player yet to make his professional debut? Have a look at the video of Coutinho in action (above.) Sure it’s only youthful, but feast your eyes on the move at around the 0:25 mark, where one turn puts two defenders down on their arses. That makes Phillipe Coutinho a name to remember.
