Another Comeback for Rene Higuita

higuita_scorpion.jpgHere’s some good news for players who have tested positive for cocaine and who were involved in a drug-related kidnapping and who once had plastic surgery on live television. They are more than welcome to come play football in Venezuela, even at the tender age of 41.

Former Colombian keeper and all around nutter Rene Higuita has decided that saving kids in South Africa isn’t keeping him busy enough. He’d like to save shots for Guaros de Lara as well.

The poodle-haired one, famous for his pointless yet entertaining scorpion kick save against England in a friendly in 1995, made his debut for Guaros de Lara in their 2-2 draw against Monagas against this past weekend.

There is something oddly comforting knowing that Higuita is a footballer once again. The world needs more keepers who are prone to blunders, both professional and personal. As long as they don’t play for my team.
