Ariel Ortega’s Big Balls Win the Superclásico for River

By: Daryl | October 7th, 2007

It takes big balls to score a penalty in the Superclásico, especially when you’re playing for River Plate at home and visiting Boca Juniors are in much better form. Ariel Ortega stepped up once for River, tried the old stutter move and saw his penalty saved by Mauricio Caranta. But the ref spotted Caranta sneaking off his line early so Ortega got a second chance. This is where mere mortals change their underwear, but Ortega stepped up and put it in the bottom right corner to make it 2-0 to River, which is how it finished.

A comparison between Ortega and Donovan is surreal. Ortega is much, much, better. And if you ask me, since maradona retirement (and expecting messi's confirmation) ortega is the best player from argentina

I thought stutter steps when taking pens were illegal. Whatever happened to Ortega? He was supposed to be the next Maradona but he never really made it overseas. Kinda like Landon Donovan.
