Colombia Coaches Brawl on the Sidelines
By: Bob | August 7th, 2006
The Clasura in Colombia might not have the greatest teams in the world, but pound-for-pound the league might just have the best fights.
Last week we told you about a player who was ejected after he attacked the stretcher carrying an opposing player. This week’s ejections involve a pair of coaches who got into it on the sidelines in the 80th minute of a match between Real Cartagena and Cucuta.
The trouble began when Cucuta coach Jorge Luis Pinto pleading for a referee’s call. Real Cartagena coach Julio Comensana took objection to this and punched his Cuctua counterpart.
After the match, Comensana (pictured above during happier, I look like a grandfather times) offered this vague comment/threat/pontification on life:
“Mr Pinto can say what he likes as long as he doesn’t get more involved,” he said.
We have no clue what that means but we look forward to the next match involving these teams and these coaches.
In other Clasura, Santiago Escobar has taken over the helm at defending champion Pasto. Escobar is the brother of Andres Escobar, the Colombian player who was gunned down following his own goal against the United States in the 1994 World Cup.
