Crazy Goal of the Week: Team Scores with Two Balls on the Field

By: Bob | October 9th, 2006

The goal in the video above comes courtesy of the Ecuadorian league. It was the 89th minute of a game between Deportivo Quito and LDU. As you can see, the referee awards a corner kick to LDU and Deportivo Quito keeper Daniel Viteri still has a ball in his hands. What happens next is unbelievable. Watching Viteri try to nail the corner kick with the ball is a bit like watching a missile defense test. I only wonder what would have happened if the two balls actually collided. To make matters worse, the goal stood and gave LDU a 2-1 victory. Unbelievable.

  • 3rd footballing world. Sorry. You expect that to happen in Equatorial Guinea. In a minor league game. The referee is full of shit. Biggest blunder I ever saw from out of Europe.

That the goal was allowed is beyond bizarre. I'm not being snide here, but asking a real question: Why was it allowed? What rule did that come under? I honestly don't understand and would like to. Offerings?

Of course, the video is a hoot. I so wish that the goalie had hit the other ball. The ref needs remedial rule education.

Hopefully FIFA doesn't see that video. They might try to institute a new tie breaker involving multiple balls on the pitch at the same time.

I wonder if they put both balls in the goal if the referee would have awarded them two goals. What a strange play.
