Diving Files: You Can’t Fake Being Hit By An Official, Dumbass.

By: chris | March 12th, 2009

Apparently it wasn’t all good during Ronaldo’s goal-scoring return last weekend. No, it was actually quite bad.

The clown above is Sergio Escudero, Argentine midfielder for Corinthians. He runs into to the flag of the linesman, except he misses. But that doesn’t stop him from hitting the ground like a sack of potatoes. The linesman, of course, has nothing of it and tells Sergio to get his diving ass up off the ground and that double-stuffed Oreos are a heaven-sent concoction of chocolaty goodness. (My Portuguese is rusty.)

It’s pretty funny because this cat makes Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba look like landlubbers – the appropriate soundtrack helps – but then it’s also pretty despicable and these actions all too commonplace. The footballing powers need to begin handing out 10 game suspensions like candy at Halloween for this stuff. And this stuff.

  • Escudero's submitting his autobiography. "Brushed by the flag".
  • My Portuguese is also rusty but here's a bit:

Typical reflex of the Argentinians they feel a hit and they fall, it doesn't matter what it is they fall. Here's one trying to get the expulsion of the line judge.

The other player hit his arm. He wanted the player who hit him to be booked but unfortunately instead of touching his arm he touched his nose. Sometimes that's what happens when you are faking.

i think he was just diving bc the guy hit his arm and the flag was just coincidentally there. i don't think he was trying to blame it on the assistant ref.

that being said, that dive was still terrible in a comedic way.
