Copa Libertadores Final First Leg: Fábio Puts on a Show
By: Daryl | July 9th, 2009First leg of the 2009 Copa Libertadores final was last night: Estudiantes vs Cruzeiro, a classic Argentina vs Brazil affair. The game in La Plata, Argentina finished goalless, mostly thanks to a superhuman display from Cruzeiro keeper Fábio.
You can see his impressive shift above, with five excellent saves in the first minute and fifteen seconds of the video. My favourite is where he both saves and holds a long range shot from the shiny headed Seba Veron.
According to Fábio’s Wiki page, he has attracted interested from both Arsenl and Benfica in the last twelve months, and his current contract expires in December 2009. So don’t be surprised if his name appears in the winter transfer window, or maybe even the current one.
The away goals rule is not used in the Copa Libertadores final, so the 0-0 away draw is a solid result for Cruzeiro. Second leg (in Brazil) happens Wednesday, July 15th.
