Fans Fight with their Team’s Players at Brazilian Airport

Airplane travel just isn’t what it used to be. Between the cramped seats, marginal food and dangers of getting beaten up by football fans in an airport, I’m starting to think that teams should consider staying at home all together.

Last week it was fans of the Argentine side Lanus who got into a scuffle with airport security that was staffed with fans of a rival team. This week it is the Brazilian second division side Coritiba who fought with their own fans in an airport after returning home from a 2-0 loss Ceara.

The description of what went down:

Television pictures showed chaotic scenes as the players entered the arrivals hall to be greeted by furious supporters.

Witnesses said that several players and club security men hit back, exchanging punches with the fans, while litter bins were thrown around the hall.

The fighting lasted several minutes before police brought the situation under control.

Unfortunately, this fun hasn’t been posted on YouTube yet, but that is probably merely a matter of time. UPDATE: Video is now below.

Can you imagine if you just happened to be a passenger on the same plane as the Coritiba players? You get off the plane to go pick up your luggage and the next thing you know you’re caught in a full on riot. With the way things are going, the safest place to be during air travel might just be on the airplane itself.
