Football Fashion: Boca Juniors Argyle Socks

boca.jpgUsually when we watch Argentina’s Apertura we focus on the massive amounts of confetti and streamers thrown onto the pitch by the supporters. Sometimes we think that football matches are Argentina’s way of recycling paper.

This weekend we found a new distraction: Boca Juniors argyle socks.

In case you missed it, the Argentine powerhouse debuted new uniforms in their 3-0 win against fellow contender Banfield. The Nike-designed kits feather a rather classy and subdued blue shirt with yellow stripe, but it is the argyle socks that make it an instant classic.

The argyle pattern, of course, is said to have been designed by Clan Campbell, of Argyll in western Scotland, proving that ancient fashion beats the modern, Nike-influenced designs any day.

While poking around the Boca Juniors website in the hope of finding a better picture of these socks, we did come across a $50 bottle of Cabernet, presumably the perfect way to show your support for the lads while you throw paper on the pitch.
