Gaston Aguirre’s Right Foot is Deadly. To Pigeons

By: Daryl | December 19th, 2008

This is from the recent Tigres vs San Lorenzo play-off game in Argentina. San Lorenzo’s Gaston Aguirre hit a shot that was supposedly at goal, but actually hit a flock (is that the right word?) of pigeons who were hanging around on the pitch (in a clearly offside position, by the way).

Sadly (or not, depending on whether you see pigeons as beautiful birds or rats with wings) one of the pigeons was killed by the impact (see above). At least Aguirre has a firm understanding of exactly what happened and exactly what’s going to happen now that YouTube is around: “I kicked the ball and, poor pigeon,” the San Lorenzo defender said. “Now I will be remembered as the pigeon killer.”

That he will, as he takes his place alongside Lucas Neill in the football bird-hunting hall of fame.
