Hot Shower Sidelines Botafogo Keeper for a Month

shower.jpgAfter the first time we watched the movie Psycho, our parents couldn’t get us anywhere near a shower. We have the sinking suspicion that goalkeeper Lopes, who plays for Botafogo in Brazil, feels the same way now.

Lopes is out for a month after suffering second-degree burns to his face after he was scalded in the showers at the Maracana stadium in Rio.

“Suddenly, a jet of boiling water came directly at my face and I couldn’t get out of the way,” Lopes told the club’s official Web site.

In addition to the pain and humiliation Lopes is probably feeling right now, he won’t be able to hang out on the Brazilian beaches for a month because doctors have advised he stay out of the sun for that long. On a positive note, his injury will likely earn him a spot in the much revered annuals of bizarre football injuries.
