Just another Scuffle between Fans and Airport Security
By: Bob | September 29th, 2006
Airport security isn’t much of a joking matter these days and it is good to see that security officials in Argentina are cracking down on the biggest threat of them all: fans of rival football teams.
Nine fans of the Argentine club Lanus were arrested Friday morning after scuffling with airport security officials. The fans were returning from a trip to Brazil where they watched their team’s 0-0 draw with Corinthians in the Copa Sudamericana. The fight reportedly broke out when the Lanus fans refused to allow their luggage searched.
Were they carrying something illegal? Did they have anything criminal to hide? Were they two-bit terrorists disguised as football fans?
Local media reports said the fight started because airport workers who were fans of Lanus’s rivals Banfield stole flags and other belongings from the travelers.
Yes, as frequent travelers that makes us feel a lot safer. Lanus was once the home of the Ogre and we all know how dangerous he is so you can only imagine the threat their fans pose in an airport. Confiscating their flags was the right move for sure.
In unrelated news, Diego Maradona might need to think twice about traveling to the United States now that breasts might require additional airport inspections. You have to think that their are a lot of men signing up to work airport security these days.
