La Volpe Linked to Boca Juniors Job
By: Bob | August 15th, 2006
When last we saw Ricardo La Volpe, he was on the sidelines coaching Mexico in the World Cup in between cigarette puffs. La Volpe became one of our favorite World Cup characters because of he always looked like he had just rolled out of bed after an all night bender.
La Volpe is no longer in charge of El Tri and there is some speculation that he will return to his native Argentina to manage Boca Juniors next month when Alfio Basile leaves to coach Argentina’s national team.
In addition to his public display of vices and wardrobe from an 80s cop show, La Volpe is someone we admire for his way with words. Witness his reaction today when asked about the possible link with Boca Juniors:
“So far, there’s nothing,” he toldreporters after arriving at Buenos Aires airport from Mexico on Tuesday. “I’m here for the same reason as last time (a holiday). If you ask me tomorrow it could be different but today there’s nothing.”
Boca Juniors could do much worse than to hire La Volpe and La Volpe could do much worse than to accept a job with a top tier club that shares his sense of fashion.
