The 2007 trend in Argentinean football was for little clubs to upstage the more famous names. And that continued this week in the opening round of Copa Libertadores 2008 group matches. River Plate lost 2-0 to San Martin of Peru, San Lorenzo lost 2-0 to Caracas of Venezuela and Estudiantes lost 1-0 to Deportivo Cuence of of Ecudaor. The three clubs didn’t manage a goal between them.

Luckily Lanús were on hand to show their more famous compatriots how it should be done. They beat Danubio of Uruguay 3-1, with goals from Agustín Pelletieri, Lautaro Acosta and José Sand. That said, the best goal of the game was Danubio’s, with Leonardo Abelenda smacking a free kick into the top left corner.
